✨️Oathbound by Tracy Deonn✨️

I absolutely loved the new characters we were introduced to in this book, especially Zoe. I also loved Bree's character development in this book and all the mysteries and dramatic turns. Probably my favorite in the series so far. 💖
#booksky #readingupdates
A book cover of Oathbound by #1 New York Times Bestselling author Tracy Deonn, the third book in The Legendborn Cycle. It shows the main character, Bree, front and center with a determined look on her face. What we can see of her brown skin under her tank top is riddled by glowing red veins with a magical quality. Her hands are raised and are emanating waves of purple magical light. A strand of her dark curly textured hair has turned white and is blowing in the wind with the rest. Behind her stands a cloaked figure, partially concealed by shadows with glowing red eyes.

✨️All Systems Red by Martha Wells✨️

So this ended up feeling more like a prologue than a proper first book, but I did enjoy Murderbot's narration and the other characters, so I will probably pick up book 2 at some point. 👻

A book cover for All Systems Red by Hugo and Nebula Award winner Martha Wells. It shows Murderbot, a robot clad in shiny armor with a visor that hides its face in a clearing on a foreign planet. Trees wind up in the distance underneath planetary rings that stretch across the night sky like a rainbow. This book is part of The Murderbot Diaries and is a New York Times bestselling series. A blurb by Ann Leckie sits on the upper left, saying "I love Murderbot!".

✨️The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins✨️

After reading Sunrise on the Reaping (twice), Panem wasn't ready to let me go, so I'm re-reading the original trilogy now and phewwwww do so many things hit so differently now with all the new context. 🥹

✨️Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins✨️

Emotional, exciting and absolutely gut-wrenching. We already knew that Haymitch's story is a sad one, but damn, knowing all the details about it really kicks you in the feels extra hard. I cried several times. 🥹

A book cover for Sunrise on the Reaping, a Hunger Games novel by Suzanne Collins. It features a purple background with a circular design, on top of which sits a gold design featuring a snake and a mockingjay bird facing off with spikes that remind of a crown design between them. The shape of the gold design reminds me a little bit of a harp.

Today is December 23rd and I'm continuing to make progress through "The Pelican Brief" by Grisham. I'm impressed by his ability to shift perspectives from character to character but not lose the reader.

Today is December 6th and I've made more progress through "Great Expectations." A fantastic story so far. Pip has just arrived in London and met the pale boy he fought earlier.

Yesterday I also started reading "Into Thin Air" by Krakauer. So far so good.

In that spirit, I finished my first book of the year and while I wasn't a fan of the pacing during the first half of it, it really found its footing in the second half again and more than made up for it and I enjoyed it so, so much 🌟

The Deadlands Fall 2025 (7 originals plus 4 poems) @thedeadlands.com

An issue full of some strange and moving portrayals of death, grief, monsters, and history. Lots to chew on here, with a consistent denseness and layering of meaning.

Today is January 2nd and I read Canto 17 of Dante's "Inferno" yesterday. The monster Geryon's depiction was creepy and compelling. Dante's journey is dark. I can't wait for Paradise!

Today is January 1st and I'm about halfway through 'Perelandra' which is part 2 of C.S. Lewis's Space Trilogy. It's essentially a retelling of the early Genesis story of Adam and Eve (with a Sci-Fi twist).

Today is December 29th and yesterday I read cantos 12 and 13 of Dante's "Inferno." Slow-reading this thing is killing me as I want to just keep going. But I'm forcing myself to stop and contemplate, peruse other translation, and read supplementary materials.
