What did Jesus say about the poor, the sick, and the stranger?

Matthew 25 is the most detailed picture of the final judgment Jesus gives, and the test has nothing to do with doctrine. No creed…

Was America founded as a Christian nation? I posted the 1950s receipts a couple weeks ago and the most common reply was “fine, but the Founders were Christians.” So here are the Founders. What I didn’t have room for on the slides: Jefferson didn’t put “President of the United States” on his tombstone. He chose three things, and one of them was the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom, the law that disestablished the church. He said it was meant to cover “the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and Mahometan, the Hindoo, and infidel of every denomination.” His words. And Jefferson’s razor project had a title. He called it The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth. Morals. Not miracles. He told John Adams in 1823 that the virgin birth would one day be “classed with the fable of the generation of Minerva in the brain of Jupiter.”Franklin, Washington, Jefferson, Madison. Deist, silent, heretic, strict separationist. I’m not saying they were atheists. Most weren’t. I’m saying the church I grew up in would have put every one of them under discipline, and then quoted them from the pulpit on the Fourth of July.I write the long version of these every week. Want it? There are only 2 reasons they keep perpetuating this “Christian Nation” lie: they are White Christian Supremacists, or they are co-opting gullible voters in order to pass tax cuts and gut regulations. (From Threads)

I did not grow up knowing any of this. I was handed a Bible and told it was the unchanging word of God, complete, perfect, and settled. What I was never told is that it was written, copied, translated, and edited entirely by human hands, and that you can still see the fingerprints. A woman named Junia, called an apostle by Paul himself, was quietly turned into a man named Junias by later translators, a name that did not even exist in the ancient world. Verses ordering women to stay silent were slipped into Paul’s letters and placed in the mouth of an apostle who was already dead. The real women who led the early church were written down or out. I spent years digging into this, talking to the scholarship, checking the manuscripts, and the deeper I went the more I realized how much had been kept from people like me, not because it was secret, but because it simply never made it from the pulpit to the pew. That is the whole reason I write. I take the things I was never taught, the history, the mistranslations, the edits, and I lay them out in plain language with every claim sourced, so anyone can check it for themselves. I do not believe this information should sit locked behind seminary walls or paywalls. People who were raised to build their entire lives on this book deserve to know how it was actually made. So none of my writing costs a thing. Everything I publish is free, because everyone deserves access to the truth about their own faith, not just the people who can pay for it.If you want to go deeper on any of this, comment the word Substack on this post and I will send you the link directly. That is all it takes. It is free, it is sourced, and it is yours.#Deconstruction #ExVangelical #BibleHistory

I started this account to share the things people raised in fundamentalist religion were never allowed to see. But this was never about telling you what to believe. Deconstruction is not one destination where everyone ends up an atheist. It is a spectrum. Some walk away entirely and build a life around doing good simply because other people matter. Some keep their faith and shed the fear, the exclusion, and the control while holding onto the love. Every point on that spectrum is valid, and I support all of it. But there is one line, and it is not blurry. Your belief stops being a private matter the moment it becomes a weapon. The moment it is used to strip someone’s rights, to discriminate, or to tell another human being they are worth less. Believe anything you want about yourself and your God. You do not get to legislate it onto the person next to you. That is why separation of church and state protects everyone, the religious included. When one religion runs the government, the law always bends toward it, and everyone else pays. So here is the test for any belief you hold. When you act on it, does it harm someone else? Does it exclude? Does it make another person less than? If yes, it is worth examining, no matter how sacred it feels. Because a belief rooted in love never needs to diminish anyone to survive. Only a harmful one does. Wherever you are on this spectrum, there is more here for you, and none of it is behind a paywall. Comment Substack below and I’ll send you the link. The Council of Nicaea in 325 AD is one of the most consequential and least examined events in Christian history. Emperor Constantine, who had converted to Christianity for reasons that were as political as they were spiritual, convened roughly 300 bishops from across the empire to resolve a growing theological crisis. At the center of it was a dispute between two camps. Arius of Alexandria taught that Jesus was the first and greatest of God’s creations but was not himself God in the fullest sense. His opponent Athanasius argued that Jesus was fully divine, coequal and coeternal with the Father. Both positions had massive followings. Both claimed scriptural support. The council voted in favor of Athanasius. The Nicene Creed was produced. Arius and his supporters were exiled. But the controversy did not die. Arianism continued to dominate large parts of the Christian world for decades after Nicaea. Multiple subsequent councils reversed and reinstated the Nicene position before it finally became fixed orthodoxy. The doctrine that defines Christian identity today, that God is one being in three coequal persons, was not handed down from heaven. It was the winning side of a theological argument that easily could have gone the other way. If these topics matter to you, comment Substack below. I’ll DM you a link to my deep dive thoughts.
