The wall of more solid rock in the upper left of the image takes on a purplish hue in the shadowed light. It is twisted and wavy in structure.

This magically flowing red clay sculpture represents the “journey of water in the Australian garden.” The installation “draws inspiration from water arriving or leaving a desert landscape.” Carefully shaped westringia, or Coast Rosemary, resembles salt pans, or “inland seas” that may develop in Australia’s ten inland deserts. The photo shows symbolic imagery; the iron rich Outback-like red sand shows movement as if water, while the Australian native Coast Rosemary alludes to what is noted above. But the westringia plant itself, albeit drought tolerant, is from the “coast” and not the desert Outback. Coincidentally and given the artwork's theme, rows and rows of fluffy clouds provide contrast with the bright rusty dirt and green-white circles of Coast Rosemary. The RBG has given the public an enormous, and grand, visual art piece worth more than any paid admission; however, thankfully it’s free for everyone—and simply breathtaking.

Not exactly - seven towers with four legs apiece = one Maunsell army fort. A single tower with just the two stumpy legs = one Maunsell navy fort. Pictured here is Fort U6 Redsand(s), the most complete extant Maunsell army fort. Completed as the second of the Thames army forts, on 3rd September 1943.

Today's boat trip did happen & it was extremely wet & windy. We got to visit Redsand Fort - a WW2 fort used during WW2 to protect the Thames estuary. On the way back we saw the masts (due to be removed next month) of the SS Richard Montgomery - a WW2 wreck still packed full of dangerous explosives!
The fort & it's towers sticking out of the sea on concrete legs. The masts of the SS Richard Montgomery. It could potentially explode at any moment. All six towers of the fort. It's raining & the sea is choppy. The wreck of a Phoenix breakwater - they were used to create temporary Docks during the D Day landings. This one broke on the way down & has been here ever since.
