Beautiful early morning outing rewarded with much less wind than yesterday- kingfisher, bearded reedling, reed bunting, noisy wigeon and a teal at hen reedbeds near southwold. Also met this inquisitive seal while jogging home!

Tackling nutrient pollution in Loweswater! 🌾
To catch farm runoff, we helped install new settling ponds & reedbeds below a local farm. The farmer did the heavy digger work, and our apprentices planted the reeds!

Four good birds today, a Yellow-browed at the boating lake, 25 White-fronts Hen Reedbeds, no Bean yet, my first British Fan-tailed Warbler just in flight but still unmistakable, rounded off with a SEO over the old mill, light easterlies begun - will they produce?

A plaque to commemorate the opening of the Wetlands.
A fingerpost showing the migration paths of various birds!

Against a backdrop of the Sizewell dome & the extensive reedbeds of the RSPB's flagship reserve, the Swamp Monster. Our only vagrant record bar a few escapees & ship stowaways. Part of a Europe-wide influx after southern wetlands dried out. #BirdsA-Z

On my Wetlands walk I saw...
A snail with a lime green shell!
The sunshine through the trees.
The lighthouse through the reedbeds.
And an invitation to see Starling murmurations and a bowl of soup! (Would love this if I lived closer!)

A lovely morning at Tice's Meadow for today's volunteer task. The skies were blue & the sun shone as we cleared willow from the reedbeds. Without this work, a vital habitat would be lost. A big thank you to Rich the SCC Ranger, Surrey Choices & our local volunteers!

Living Systems: Timeless rustic stone walls that look like they grew naturally out of the surrounding earth.

Living root anchors, courtyard cooling, and reedbeds eliminate noisy mechanical chillers.

Ok they are not as flash as the bearded tits I posted earlier but these male and female reed buntings are rather smart! Also seen at the Tay reedbeds on Sunday @rspb.bsky.social @rspbscotland.bsky.social @scottishbirding.bsky.social #Birds #wildlife #Scotland
