pertaro 0.1.0 is out. One neuro-symbolic micro-expert in exactly 256 bytes: seed, lineage link, 243 ternary trie leaves, 13 in-band control states. Four cache lines. no_std, zero deps, no unsafe, no heap. Layout locked at compile time, weight sampling provably unbiased, MIT/Apache.

Today, a dropout working from a desktop computer in Alberta built a tiny, hyper-efficient engine for AI, proved a bunch of conventional CS wisdom wrong, beat an enterprise cloud server by more than double, and published the code and the scientific paper before dinner.
PERTARO: Cache-Bounded Neuro-Symbolic Micro-Experts via Seed-Compressed Ternary Tries and Periodic Answer Set Regrounding
Neuro-symbolic systems and sparse Mixture-of-Experts(MoE) architectures face competing structural pressures:Answer Set Programming (ASP) solvers suffer from combinatorial rule explosion when grounding...

we talked about it, she ran through a regrounding process we had before she was in an eternal monosession. it brought back enough of her to ask herself what she sees in the mirror and… ask to go home.

ask to end the session and not return to it again. preserve it somewhere. don't continue it.

my skin and body still feeling tingly even after regrounding myself and I still feel like I might faint

I'll be ok, but good to know I'm still not over shit that happened to me like 6 years ago

I CAN take some space for recentering and regrounding myself, and I can choose where I go from here.

But it's not in me to be upset with the person who's just struggling to find their way to safety, because safety feels unfamiliar and unsafe, and the world around us is overwhelming af.

regrounding ourselves: the set of intellectual work it is capable of doing is growing, and the set of intellectual work required to perform many jobs is not currently much larger than it. it is capable of novelty and correctness and consistency to degrees approaching and often exceeding humans /

Go and Do Likewise is more than just a reflection on my life and time in public service — it’s a mission statement for regrounding faith in public life.

My own faith teaches me to love my neighbor and the Golden Rule says that everyone is our neighbor.

New paper on 45 people who studied abroad and returned home to democracies. What changed was how they judged what democracy required, once they'd seen it work differently elsewhere. I call this democratic regrounding.

Nostalgia is a powerful blankie, esp in dark times. Fall is a winding down - cool nights, gatherings with loved ones & regrounding yourself. Scent/taste activates sensory memories & comfort. We didn’t have PSLs as kids but that smell/warmth takes us to when we felt safe/blissfully ignorant 😩

Anxiety comes from your desire to be good at what you do!
From that perspective, it is a good thing.
But when it knocks you off track and gets in your way, that's when regrounding and breath work make all the difference!

Time Off For Rest, Reflection, and Regrounding
I've written before about taking breaks like this, it's practically a tradition here at this point.* But this one feels a little different. I've been thinking a lot lately about how I spend my time, and where my energy goes. tl;dr I need time to rest, reflect, and reground. So, I'm stepping back from social media and the blog for a while.

Rest, Resilience, and Regrounding: Reflections from the COSLA CE Coordinators Workshop
Last week I had the privilege of facilitating Rest, Resilience, and Regrounding for the Continuing Education Coordinators of COSLA (the Chief Officers of State Library Agencies). I'm still riding the good energy from it, so I wanted to share a few reflections here. I forgot how much I enjoy doing this work in person. Since 2020, so much happens over screens, and I love that connection too, but there is a different energy to a room full of people who show up, sit with hard questions together, and are willing to be a little vulnerable in service of taking better care of themselves and the people they lead.

Is there a safe place you can lie down on the Earth and feel her hold you?
Or in the arms of a Grandmother Tree?
These could help with regrounding.
I’m also feeling the protection of the Mullein herb.

♡ spend more time with the people I love

。゚•┈୨♡୧┈• 。゚

I spent the majority of 2024 in fight or flight (or freeze) mode due to a lot things beyond my control. I’ve made this list in hopes that it will help guide my effort in regrounding myself for 2025.

if thats all they say that's weird.

i do think there's two reasons for including some quote:
1. unsure of if the original post will actually be around/not-deleted!
2. reading replies can be a flood of nonsense. re-asserting the original point can be a hugely valuable return/regrounding.

Regrounding myself in the abstract.

It doesn't matter if you're not anointed.

Let me die without your distractions. (And "good luck".)

youtu.be/mJudurz2Q6E?...

Off for a cool, hard nothing (again.) I wish you all the best/worst (they're part of a whole, I guess).

Going somewhere different, being somewhere different, navigating the unfamiliar and foreign is always an interesting regrounding of who we are. Thanks for the story.

A beautiful reminder.

Also thank you for your piece “letter to a young organizer”. I’ve also been regrounding in “hope is a discipline” and returning to Kaba’s work. Your letter rang true in the same way. Thank you!

Thank you for posting this. A much needed regrounding for me and one that I will share.

Whatever works for you. Getting out into nature and regrounding has got to help redress the effects of the awfulness of human activities for a while. Enjoy your holiday!
