#regulated-institutions
Traditional media’s gates reinforced each other. It was expensive to produce a newspaper so lots of effort went into planning the content; it was the product of great intentionality. There was limited broadcast spectrum available so access was regulated and placed under competent institutions.

‘I don’t trust scientists or institutions,’ they post…on a device powered by decades of science, connected to a network designed by institutions, while eating food regulated so it doesn’t kill them.

Crypto is a scam. It's a high risk investment, not regulated by countries or financial institutions, gobbles up energy, a preferred means of payment by hackers and ransomware bandits, and beloved by billionaires who want money and power while avoiding the accountability of countries and governments.

Synapse was an online "banking and financial services" company. No, it wasn't a bank. It was "tied" to a bank. It collapsed earlier this year and people are finding out they weren't insured. NONE of these institutions are regulated by the government. youtu.be/63rqSPpOvB0?...
The collapse of Synapse Bank is just another Domino falling.

The handwaving away of privacy concerns based on false equivalences with regulated institutions is incredibly disappointing here.

(to be clear I'm not criticizing the girl but a regulatory environment that allows for quasi regulated institutions to give people random injections).

That's why for two decades now, Russian propagandists have belittled EU, mocked its institutions and, echoing some Europeans, portrayed it as decadent, divided, over-regulated, or doomed.

okay i wouldn't say they are illegitimate but i would say how the SCOTUS is constituted, regulated, and what they have authority over are bad and dumb, like many american institutions, and other countries have figured out better ways to do this, but we haven't, so here we are in this dumb situation.

We urgently need regulated student distribution across institutions. Now.
Rather sadly - my first post on here is to let anyone who will listen know that English/Creative Writing at Oxford Brookes is facing massive redundancies - 40% of staff to be culled by January including my own role. Please share and support, we are trying to save our livelihoods #SaveBrookesEnglish

"A group of American oligarchs want to undermine European institutions because they don’t want to be regulated."

To put it another way: X is no longer a space for institutional communication.
It has been invaded by trolls, extremists and agents of interference.
Institutions no longer have any use for it apart from trolling and must move towards better-regulated platforms for their institutional communication.
Hilarious trolling, courtesy of the French government.
'French response' is the only official account that can legitimately remain on Twitter. And we want one here too so we can have a laugh with it 😁

This is good advice and reminds me of this classic post: www.kalzumeus.com/2017/09/09/i...

"Paper trails ... are terrifying to regulated institutions... [A]nyone who sounds like a well-organized professional with a paper trail is a problem to be swiftly addressed.

That, dear reader, can be you."

Reagan closed down mental institutions and embraced the NRA. So now we all live in a well-armed and poorly-regulated mental institution.

1. A financial institution by legal definition (18 U.S. Code § 20) does not include them, as they are NOT depository institutions

2. They are considered private payment networks and processors

3. They are primarily regulated by the FTC and CFPB

4. Banks are regulated by FDIC, OCC, etc.

The Democrats could have easily "protected norms and institutions" by actually making them laws. A system regulated by norms is an unregulated system.

It would be so funny if anthropic and oai got regulated like systemically important financial institutions haha I don't think your AI will save you from that

AI in education is also:

- Extracting data to make even more services to sell back to institutions
- Un-evidenced
- Over-hyped
- Fascism-adjacent
- Under-researched
- Under-regulated
- Likely to increase (not reduce) teacher workload
- Making schools/universities dependent on big tech companies ...

like yes, organize locally, do the work, get this stuff regulated on whatever level you can find power. but this sort of thing requires a response at the national level and all of our institutions are so captured that it will not happen in the foreseeable future. and that’s fucking depressing!

This is insanity. Cryptocurrency isn't currency; it's a speculative fad. Banks are regulated for a good reason: They're entrusted with depositors' money, and those deposits insured by the gov't. This is a transparent attempt to grant legitimacy to a sketchy asset class

It's been said that the regulatory environment has failed to deal with emergent phenomena, and many people are said to trust these institutions are more than more regulated alternatives.
These Celsius letters to the bankruptcy judge should be required reading for anyone who thinks that the only victims of crypto collapses are degens out there gambling on memecoins.

I've worked at two "unicorn" fintechs, and that is why I keep my money on the largest and most heavily regulated financial institutions I can find.

i wish that more mainstream institutions valued evidence based medicine whatsoever and therefore recognized and regulated weight-loss ads as the dangerous anti-health misinfo propaganda that they are. oh well!!!!

I’m admittedly worried about crypto being used to repeat the S&L fraud but it’s not really similar to shadow banking since S&Ls were regulated depository institutions.

all our institutions and associations and professions and government departments and agencies and every other regulated and regulatory body could set a simple threshold for filtering out complaints that could be resolved by the complainant not going looking for the view they do not like.
