RGG Studio has chosen suppressing #REMOVEKAGAWA as their PR strategy
A screenshot of hidden replies regarding #REMOVEKAGAWA on a Ryosuke Horii (@RyosukeHorii) tweet, captioned "Ryosuke Horii, director and producer of Yakuza Kiwami 3, is hiding #REMOVEKAGAWA-related comments on a promotional tweet. This action follows RGG Studio’s Japanese Instagram account limiting and deleting #REMOVEKAGAWA-related replies."

RGG Studio suppressing #REMOVEKAGAWA on Instagram
Several screenshots of the ryugagotokustudio Instagram page with comments with the all-caps hashtag #REMOVEKAGAWA and an error saying “Comments on this post have been limited.” A lowercase #removekagawa hashtag seems to have gotten through. The screenshots are accompanied by a caption stating: “RGG Studio Is Limiting and Deleting Comments About #REMOVEKAGAWA on Instagram “The #REMOVEKAGAWA tag appears be filtered out when written in all-caps, but not in lowercase. One Twitter user reports comments were disabled while #REMOVEKAGAWA comments were mass-deleted. According to another user, the filter was briefly lifted and the account was being flooded with #REMOVEKAGAWA comments, but seems to have been reinstated. The situation is currently in limbo.”

Compiled what we know about RGG Studio's censorship of the #REMOVEKAGAWA movement. Keep speaking up.
Four sets of screenshots depicting RGG Studio’s acts of censorship as captioned: “RGG Studio (9k followers) limits, filters, and deletes #REMOVEKAGAWA comments on Instagram. RGG West (111k) currently does not, despite receiving more comments.” “Yakuza Kiwami 3 director/producer Ryosuke Horii hides #REMOVEKAGAWA comments, deletes tweet, and says he’ll block spam replies (“annoying replies”).” “Parody account RGG Studio UK suspected of being taken down for speaking up about #REMOVEKAGAWA despite being clearly marked as a parody account.” “Sega summarily marks feedback forms regarding #REMOVEKAGAWA as solved with no response. Fans resort to repeatedly asking for follow-ups and responses to keep tickets open.”

A video I cowrote that tackles #REMOVEKAGAWA from a different angle than any I've seen just went up.
If you have 15 minutes, please check it out!
A picture of Teruyuki Kagawa as Goh Hamazaki with his face mosaiced out accompanied by the following excerpt from the YouTube video “RGG Studio Has Failed Women and Survivors | Yakuza Kiwami 3 [#REMOVEKAGAWA](https://www.youtube.com/hashtag/removekagawa)” by makbak3_kiwami, V1Vtorious, and 04tenno: “His other victim, Mirei (pseudonym), was a bright and cheerful hostess in her 30s known to be able to handle drunk guests, which Kagawa targeted her for. Soon after she sat next to him, he reached into her dress, tore off her bra, kissed her, and groped her. She escaped with the help of staff, but upon returning for her things, Kagawa forced her to stay and SAed her again on video call to a junior kabuki actor. Word of his conduct spread through the club, humiliating her further when concerned customers called out to her after she got away. “These were, allegedly, not isolated incidents. Kagawa was accused of violently hitting a female production staff member in the head in 2018. He’d been banned from most hostess clubs in Minato leading up to the incident in Ginza in 2019. One witness even claimed to have seen him groping hostesses on other occasions. His pattern of misconduct, however, would remain an “open secret” left unaddressed for years to come.”

this is unironically how you know it's so *over* over
The outcry has gotten so bad among fans that it prompted longtime GamesFAQS guides and walkthrough writer Scott Zdankiewicz to release a statement announcing he doesn’t plan on covering Kiwami 3 because of RGG Studio and Sega’s radio silence on #RemoveKagawa. “We tend to be a community that's more optimistic even when it comes to things that might not be in our best interest, but this is one of those things that's soured the mood and really hushed a lot of voices,” Zdankiewicz said, regarding the temperature of the Yakuza fandom amid RGG Studio’s radio silence.

Incidentally, there are as many lines in this 16-minute video as Hamazaki has in the entirety of Yakuza Kiwami 3. So that's no reason not to #REMOVEKAGAWA, if it ever was.

I’m not the biggest fan of Yakuza, but WHAT THE ABSOLUTE FUCK is wrong with RGG Studio?

We genuinely need to stop hiring creeps solely for voice talent and let them suffer the consequences. Companies seriously need to stop being silent and listen to the public outcry.

RGG Studio not only cast Kagawa despite his actions, they are specifically taking advantage of his image as a creep to sell the role.

Guess that’s that. #REMOVEKAGAWA
A shot of Teruyuki Kagawa as Goh Hamazaki in Yakuza Kiwami 3 with his face mosaic blurred out, accompanied by an excerpt from a GAME Watch interview with Ryosuke Horii on 2026-02-05: Horii: “Rikiya and Hamazaki are both key characters to the story, so it would certainly be safer not to recast them and avoid online criticism (laughs). But we felt there was no use being afraid. We based our decision on what excited us and made us think, ‘This is who we want to perform,’ or ‘What if we cast this person?’ […] Hamazaki is a sleazy, persistent, and militant yakuza, right? Since he isn’t an explosive character like Kanda, when we tried to think of someone who makes you go, ‘This guy’s a creep,’ naturally it was Kagawa-san. The biggest thing was just had to see that. Kagawa-san’s acting is fun to watch. Even when he’s chopping a pig’s feet off with a chef’s knife, it has a slimy feel.”

It's been discovered that actor Teruyuki Kagawa, who has been casted as Goh Hamazaki in Yakuza Kiwami 3, was guilty of sexual harassment towards a hostess back in 2019. This information was public back in 2022, with a bizarre apology being issued by the actor.

Thinking about Kiwami 3 and the #REMOVEKAGAWA thing, and it does make me disappointed in RGG studios but proud of Yakuza fans. That a solid amount of people who love these stories and characters developed something in common with Kiryu by not tolerating misogyny and sexual harassment.

Hey, ah, you might wanna get Y3 Remastered. It has some shit that aged very poorly, but it doesn't have any characters that are played by actual sex pests, like Kiwami 3 does.

Big feature about the #RemoveKagawa movement and fans feeling that the bloom has been off the rose for the Yakuza/Like A Dragon games, with this latest controversy being a last straw for many.
For over 20 years, Like A Dragon has been a video game saga of earnest, positive masculinity wrapped in a tacky suit, a story about men who protect the vulnerable even if it means tearing said suits clean from the lapel to brandish the unshakable values inked on their backs. The values of its developer, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, garnered it decades' worth of goodwill. But lately, its fandom feels that RGG Studio has lost its way in the lead up to the release of Yakuza Kiwami 3, especially after the studio’s refusal to dismiss a voice actor who has openly admitted to sexual assault. Yakuza Kiwami 3 is the latest remake in the Yakuza series. Despite being the remake of a game plagued with the sentiment of being “the bad one,” teeming with promise to change fans' minds with a new coat of paint, the vibes around this remake have been rancid, not least because of the widespread calls to remove the voice actor Teruyuki Kagawa.
