Bingo! Chalmers Johnson wrote about such bases a lot in his books, but I first heard about it reading UFO literature mainly the 1980 Rendlesham Forest incident on the outskirts of the RAF base at Bentwaters where all the witnesses were USAF base security and the Air Force colonel running the joint.

I remember someone pointing out Sealand to me from the beach at Felixstowe and I didn't believe them because they'd told me about UFO's in Rendlesham Forest.

US is a hotspot for unidentified observations, but there are sightings worldwide, the Ariel school encounter in Africa or Rendlesham forest incident in UK. But you’re right, It really isn’t openly talked about enough. I’m trying to do my part to help change that.
