Alan hollinghurst is having an event in Edinburgh for Our Evenings and I can't make it. The only thing preventing me from pulling out my hair, rendong my garments etc is that sometimes it can be better not to hear writers whose work you really admire speak (aka, the old don't meet your heroes thing)

The Nier reference was so on point cause just like 2B and 9S, Xu Rendong and Lian Qiao have loved each other through multiple deaths and rebirths 😭💕 when I compared their dynamic (with personality and theme) in Desce's dms I didn't expect a literal reference to happen. I'm still just, AHHHHHHH.
