The “authors” of the Trump HHS gender medicine hitpiece have been uncovered, and they are a Gender Critical philosophy prof, a health projects consultant, and a freelance researcher
If you open the anti-trans HHS report’s appendix in NotePad, you’ll see that it was compiled by Alex Byrne.

The appendix is a rigorous, scientific overview of systematic reviews.

Alex Byrne is an MIT philosophy professor with no apparent background in science, let alone expertise in it.

Seven of the sources cited in MAHA commission's report do not exist:

“The paper cited is not a real paper that I or my colleagues were involved with," says one researcher.

The Trump administration’s “Make America Healthy Again” report misinterprets some studies and cites others that don’t exist, according to the listed authors.

RFK Jr's "MAHA" report is filled with references to studies that literally do not exist, or that completely misinterpret the studies' findings.

“We did not publish a paper.. on this topic with that co-author group, or with that title,” says one cited researcher.

So the new paper…

—finds that immigration economics is identical to other fields of empirical inquiry: researcher priors correlate with results

—finds that the magnitude of this correlation is minuscule

—does not mention the most prominent documented bias of this kind, from one of the authors.

🧪For those of us who do complex collaborations with multiple corresponding authors this is terrible . I suspect it will also hit female authors disproportionately as they tend to have more collaborations across fields…https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-025-03281-4
Google Scholar tool gives extra credit to first and last authors
Researchers welcome the initiative, but say it doesn’t go far enough to capture the nuance of researcher productivity and impact.

Two examples of politicization today:
1/ Political appointees putting out reports under the Census banner that is bunk. There is a reason the authors won't stand behind their work. Any serious data researcher would be embarrassed.
Creates doubts both about the election and the integrity of Census.

I am a very slow researcher (apologies to all my co-authors, sincerely).

Working with Claude has unlocked new levels for me: I am now very slow at scale.

OHIO researcher co-authors new study showing pterosaurs and birds evolved flight-ready brains in different ways
A new study published in Current Biology, co-authored by Lawrence Witmer, now sheds light on how pterosaurs evolved the neurological structures required for powered flight.

4. According to leading researcher, Dr. McNamara, this is a critical flaw that "amounts to a tautology."

By adjusting for suicide in research aimed at determining the effect of gender-affirming care on suicide, the authors controlled for the very outcome they sought to measure.

Not a researcher but I follow many and one additional worry I've seen is that reviewers will submit papers to AI to get a summary and expose papers to them regardless of the authors wishes.
There is no safe way for researchers to use the systems provided by OpenAI, Anthropic, or any of these other companies. They have all admitted that plagiarism is an integral component of what they do. If you put your work in – even if it's just to touch up a manuscript – they will take it.

Now I'm not saying that all their results can be explained away as false positives.

Rather, the red flag here is that the authors do not even acknowledge this problem. No theory or pre-regristration to restrict researcher degrees of freedom, no statistical adjustment for multiple comparisons.

It is worth noting here that one of the authors of this study is Ilan Meyer, the academic who came up with the concept of Minority Stress. A very eminent researcher.

It’s no longer just AI companies & their founders being sued over AI training - individual researchers are now being sued, too.

In a new lawsuit, two authors allege that Guillaume Lample, while an AI researcher at Meta, torrented 70 terabytes of pirated books…

"Biological creatures do not simply store information; they experience memory together with emotional and physiological states," says researcher Dr. Gerard Marx of MX Biotech Ltd, one of the study's co-authors.
What separates human intelligence from AI? It may be more than computation. New research suggests memory could be deeply tied to chemistry, emotion, and the biology of the brain. So can AI truly experience intelligence or only imitate it?

A new biochemical model of memory suggests that the chemistry of the human brain may represent a fundamental difference between biological and artificial intelligence.

One would hope that no serious researcher completely changes their mind after listening to just one podcast.

Instead, you'd want to question the authors, their sources, and their wider works. In Masley's case, many of his numbers do seem sound, but many of his premises seem debatable.

5/ Not one of these 100+ articles has a byline. No researcher is named anywhere on the Hanover Institute's website. A think tank with zero visible authors, publishing at industrial speed, right when Gaza coverage is under a global microscope. That is not an accident.

Also the only white papers claiming "porn addiction" is real is from Donald L. Hilton Jr. who is a Christian neurosurgeon (not a neuroscientist) or William M. Struthers who is a Christian theoretical researcher (lol).

There are no peer reviewed studies by reputable authors proving "porn addiction".
Daily reminder that “porn addiction” is not a real thing, and is an invention of the far-right, which they use to demonize both the healthy usage of porn, and to call for censorship of LGBTQ speech.

Anyone who supports the idea of “porn addiction” is legitimizing that and all it entiails.
