If you're interested in urban design, zoning reform, environmental issues in cities, this is really good. Structured comparison of the land, carbon, and other efficiency of different housing typologies (Saw @holz-bau.bsky.social recommend it, got a copy, and have not been disappointed)

There's a great book on this point called Residensity. Averaging out your swathes of 2.5 story single family homes with 10+ story towers is suboptimal for economic, environmental, and social reasons. Politics and nostalgia make it hard to shift to 3-6 stories everywhere

Singapore does this well - high amount of residensity. Not sure about how large but everything else is definitely catered for. And I mean in both public and private housing.
