I'm sure someone smarter than me can explain the qualms and issues with using Retroshare (other than the IP sharing, no shit I am well aware and you have resources to obscure that or you only add those you trust) but being able to direct transfer and chat about shit sounds so pleasant.

I'm gonna have to be a champion for this RetroShare thing aren't I?
It's got chatrooms, email, file sharing, forums, blogs, boards and private messaging all in one app and it isn't hosted by an evil company???

Countries are passing laws that require you to prove you're an adult to use websites. This is technically onerous and a bad user experience for all, so why is it happening?
imo Meta etc. want to construct a high barrier-to-entry for other would-be website/app makers, to damage smaller competitors.

If I had a team. Everyone should be allowed in the writing room (discord? zoom meeting? retroshare group?). Fuck auteur theory.
But 100% actors of any kind would be part of the writing.

That's why it's imperative we support projects that oppose monopoly
Operating systems like OpenBSD & 9front (maybe more)
Networks like NDN, Hyphanet, Freenet & RetroShare
Platforms like the Fediverse
Anonymity layers like Tor & I2P
They're the ones fighting for people's IT freedom

I think this is a good time to remind everyone that Retroshare exists. Secure communication networking, manually curated by yourselves. it's only for computers but it's pretty awesome for a free open source tool.

Maybe RetroShare & Briar, fully decentralised platforms with a variety of communication formats are close to that idea, but the way computers are designed rn makes it very awkward
Bittorrent manages to share files among peers without centralised servers!
I'd love to use RetroShare or Briar tho idk

RetroShare is an effective tool for Second Life residents to maintain communication outside the virtual world. It's a decentralized, encrypted communication platform where you can send emails, share files and videos. It also works seamlessly with Tor.
