I’ve been told my whole life that in the US the trade-off for not having public healthcare is timelier and better care. But I need to see a rheumatologist - six months’ wait. A neurologist- same thing. Like what the fuck? Another broken promise.

Aw shit. My rheumatologist is leaving in December. The letter says the NW Medicine group in Geneva is accepting new rheum patients.

I wonder how long it will take for them to get a new rheumatologist here.

I’m fine! It’s just a required workup before the rheumatologist will see me for the possible Sjogrens, and since I was going in anyway and it’s been like eight years, I figured I’d see if the rabies vax is still working.

Doctors, when they aren't in the mood to figure out what's wrong with me

I just got a call from my rheumatologist. Because of the changes to Medicaid, which no longer reimburses telemedicine appointments, I can either pay out of pocket or drive two hours away every three months, which is not possible for me most of the year due to my work schedule.

Genuinely? It was the rheumatologist who said, “I know Hitler’s methods were wrong, but people forget that he had some good points.”
A question from Reddit that I'll answer here:
"What's the most unhinged thing a doctor has said to you with a straight face?"

What really sucks is i likely need fucking lumbar puncture #5 but since I have to go through the ER to get it done and they apparently completely disregard my neurosurgeon's direct orders to give it to me if I say i need it, I just do not want to go and do it. Esp after last time.

Somewhere a rheumatologist awakens in alarm at a disturbance in the force
January 7, 2025 at 10:03 PM
My rheumatologist has been saying this for years actually. He thoroughly researched how to advise his more vulnerable patients who were in very unique under-studied situations, and it seemed obvious to him.
