#rhizaria
The kelp kingdom (Harosa) has 3 major branches:

Rhizaria ("root"): amoebas w/ microtubules in their pods

Stramenopiles ("straw hair"): big seaweeds + diatoms, water molds

Alveolates ("honeycombs"): mostly unicellular algae w/ a kind of puffy jacket of flat bags. Some have evolved parasitism

I also beat the TaeniaStella Alpha bosses today, finally fulfilling my dream of becoming an awakened transdimensional parasitic human-radiolarian monstrosity. Ä̴̫̲́̑̉ẘ̸̹̫̜͇̽ö̵͔̺̣́͗̂ơ̶̳̘̟̽͝o̵̖͛̓̈́o̵̺̼̗̿̿͠!̶͙̃̾̏͠

Specifically they are Amoebozoa. Protists are not an evolutionary, morphological, or ecological group like Fungi, Animals, or Amoebozoa.

Amoebas are not an evolutionary group either; rootlike amoebas more closely related to kelp & plants are mostly concentrated in Rhizaria in the Kelp Kingdom!

Well, that one is foraminifera. It's category hasn't changed! "Rhizaria" is the big group name and "Rhizaria" includes foraminifera, radiolarians, and phaeodarians. The part that gets people confused is that phaeodarians used to be part of the radiolarian group. Now they are not.

For 3 yrs they called these radilolaria, then last expedition foraminifera, & now they keep switching between rhizaria & phaeodarian so idk what to say. @cadurkin.bsky.social help? 😫

Scanning 29 Rhizaria species, researchers found eukaryote-to-eukaryote gene transfer is far more common and consequential than most assumed.

In Rhizaria, 8-20% of protein-coding genes arrived via lateral transfer. Eukaryote-to-eukaryote transfers outnumber prokaryote-derived ones, and they're concentrated in nuclear/informational processes rather than the cell surface.

This fruiting was made by one single individual amoeba cell. Slime molds like this are Amoebozoans, a clade or natural evolutionary group like Plants, Animals, & Fungi. Six such clades contain all multicellular eukaryotes, with the majority of "animal-like" amoebas found in Amoebozoa
February 25, 2026 at 1:13 AM
Axopods are full of microtubules!

Heliozoa & most other "planty" amoebas have both actin & microtubules in their arms. "Animaly" amoebas only have actin in their arms.

Actin is kind of like muscles & MT are kind of like bones or roots, but it's not a perfect analogy

Everything is related to amoebas because they are not a natural lineage. Some are more closely related to Plants, Fungi, Animals, etc.

Slime molds like Comatricha are a type of amoeba called an Amoebozoan, which IS a natural lineage. Most fruit by myxocarpy, a process unique to Amoebozoa.

Better than my constant typos. Foraminifera are also protist that are part of the “Rhizaria” group, so that means forams rads and phaeodarians all had a common ancestor at some poin. I think it is interesting that most of them make some type of mineral shell/structure.
