Brazil hosts the world’s largest rhodolith beds—home to 1,000+ species, many threatened or endemic. Yet most lack protection and face mounting threats. Urgent action is needed to safeguard these vital biodiversity hotspots.

🌊 Nestled between Menorca & Mallorca, the Menorca Channel hosts coralligenous beds, rhodolith beds, kelp forests & rich wildlife.

This biodiversity was under threat, so Oceana launched a campaign to protect it. A recent @ieo.es study shows it worked!

Diving over a #rhodolith bed the other day. Rhodoliths are calcareous red algae that are not attached to anything and just form little balls on the seabed. They are a highly biodiverse habitat and I saw so many species I have never seen before! Spot the cheerleeder #crab!
