Playing with Richlite. I think I’m going to radius this blank with handplanes. But larger ones than this old block plane whose broken adjuster was replaced with a radio knob long ago.

PS: my used one cost a lot less than the new ones will, unsurprisingly (though used prices for these are all over the map). The only change that I might envy is the switch to a sustainable ebony fingerboard from the richlite material on the originals.

Put strings on it finally. Kept putting off spraying finish when the weather was cooperating. Decided to just string the damn thing in the white.

I don’t hate this. Still need to properly cut the nut and slightly modify the bridge hardware.

And then figure out what to do with 8 strings.
A walnut bodied guitar with a Mosrite style body shape, with eight strings and active fluence pickups, as well as a multi-scale richlite fretboard. All made by hand, with power rarely used. Another shot of the guitar, sitting in a blue chair with a black jacket tossed over it.

Okay but this Richlite sure takes frets amazingly
Beginning the process of fretting - the first few frets at the heel end placed in the neck which is sitting on the bench. Behind it the fretting hammer, a pair of tang nippers that look like large pliers, and a block of wood with all the frets sitting in it.

One last addition for the Thorens TD 124 project: I had enough Richlite scrap left over to cut a matching armboard, which definitely helped noise and bass response. I may cross-bore some pockets in the board to accept lead shot, but for now, I'm really happy with this! #vinyl #hifi

Finally finished this mass-loaded plinth for my Thorens TD-124 Mk II turntable. Richlite and birch plywood, with some lead shot and sand loading, as well as constrained layer damping with a compliant adhesive in select locations. Lots of fiddly work but I'm pretty pleased with how this came out!

I could talk for hours about the sunk cost fallacy that plagues guitar players. guys who think tonewoods on electrics are real and who will always choose ebony fingerboards (made from endangered wood) to richlite (made from recycled paper) when they admit they can't tell the difference.
