#rightstuf
i guess its kind of funny that crunchyroll bought rightstuf and then was like. okay enough of this dork freak nerd shit, we're using the storefront to do "drops" of generic hoodies now

Next we have Sketchbook ~full color'S~, 13 episode TV series by Hal Film Maker which Nozomi & Rightstuf previously released on DVD but now on Blu-ray from AnimEigo.

This is one of many Nozomi rescues from what I can see and works with their brand.

I miss printed catalogs. I used to pore over Things You Never Knew Existed, RightStuf, Delia's, and Alloy catalogs so much when I was a kid. Even though I never bought from them.

My biggest pain point with US releases is that after the demise of Rightstuf, finding new releases has become a massive pain in the ass. CR's store is a joke and Amazon's search has been useless for physical media for a while.

fuuck dude I miss rightstuf

Orguss opening came on shuffle and I remembered I desperately need to finish that show, yet another casualty of the "just buying shit while rightstuf was alive" era

Saw RightStuf brought up in an older forum post...

And speaking of which..... 🥺 ive been hunting this volume for legitimately 4 years.... id had it on order for 3 or 4 years and the publisher just wouldnt say it was out of print until year 3 but it kept being sold until rightstuf closed down (probably cause the publisher kept saying it WASNT oop)

When walmart was selling full seasons of Dragon Ball for $13. I was still buying anime vhs up until then because anime on dvd was EXPENSIVE. I built up a huge collection of stuff that went outta print until VERY recently. I bought a buncha blurays right before rightstuf went away. History rhymes.
fun question for 2000s anime fans: when did you realize the anime bubble had popped?

for me, it was batman: gotham knight. IIRC it was first hyped as anime, but by the time it made it to release (2008) mention of anime had been scrubbed and replaced with "the world's most visionary animators" ha!

Ah that was probably what I was thinking of.Assume whatever is out there got sent to a dump or is in storage,if it made it to replication.

It reminds me I have 3 or 4 vol.1s from TokyoPop's planned rebranding. They popped out a few then just sailed on outta here! Also, RightStuf closing is deja vu.
October 13, 2026 at 3:07 AM
I had physical releases because I went through the trouble of ordering it off of RightStuf. None of my friends did. So Borders closing didn't make things that much harder to acquire, all things considered.

This is insane. CR burnt bridges so bad that Aniplex America is selling elsewhere??????

Seeing the RightStuf logo while watching stuff they licensed makes me sad, man
October 10, 2026 at 2:32 AM
day number xxxxx of being pissed Crunchyroll bought out Rightstuf to stop selling manga and LNs a year or two later
October 9, 2026 at 1:04 AM
rightstuf i miss you every day
October 8, 2026 at 11:31 PM
The owner of Rightstuf was also ready to retire which pushed that decision. Wish they sold it to someone else though.
October 8, 2026 at 10:14 PM
yeah, there's no way that's accurate. it's 23. i bought the geneon DVDs off rightstuf in late '05, it was my "loose introduction" to the actual story in the wake of seeing people on imageboards/2ch talk about it everywhere prior to mirror moon coming out with the translation a couple months later
October 9, 2026 at 3:29 PM
I think part of the problem is this isn't even Crunchyroll so much as it is Sony in control of Crunchyroll's corpse, along with Funimation, Rightstuf and so on. At the end of the day it all comes back to Sony, which Sony is Type Moon's main publisher. So yeah...unfortunately it just sucks.

All we need now is MediaOCD to somehow pry the Gundam rights out of CR's greasy, gnarled clutches and we truly do have the steady return of a new Rightstuf at this point. You love to see it!

Exciting to see AnimEigo continue to expand its storefront. I appreciate them attempting to fill that RightStuf shaped void in our hearts, little by little. Got an email about the Macross II Kickstarter today too, that'll be nice to finally have in hand.
October 7, 2026 at 4:14 PM
I'm glad MediaOCD's becoming an almost advent of RightStuf, at least for video. But I now have so much to catch up on due to my inability to trust CR or Amazon that I'm probably going to hit choice paralysis when I can ever afford anything on my wishlist.
October 7, 2026 at 11:13 PM
I would need to see more manga publishers selling their wares there before I would go that far, but Neo RightStuf is clearly the goal at this point.
October 7, 2026 at 4:40 PM
*Amazing sales*
*Different licensors in the store*
*Manga too*
*Overpriced Aniplex releases that will never go on sale*

RIGHTSTUF 2
