🏳️‍🌈 Why is Pride Month Important? 🏳️‍🌈 With Pride Month right around the corner, I thought now would be a good time to mention why Pride Month is still needed in 2026: 🏳️‍🌈 Why is Pride Month Important? 🏳️‍🌈 • Just this year, the U.S. federal government has removed or rolled back numerous LGBTQ+ rights and protections. These law changes heartbreakingly led to 5 known Transgender deaths in May 2026 alone. Two of these included; Juniper Blessing, a 19 year old Transgender Woman who was stabbed to death in her college laundry room, and Murry Foust, a 22 year old Transgender Man who was identified as missing on April 27th, 2026 - until their body was recovered on May 24th, 2026. 🏳️‍🌈 Why is Pride Month Important? 🏳️‍🌈 • In 2026, being gay is still illegal in 65 countries and territories worldwide. It is not illegal to be straight anywhere in the world. • The first Pride Event took place in June 1970 to commemorate the Stonewall uprising of June 1969. This means 2026 will be 55 years since the first Pride Event, yet all of the above and more is still happening. For all of these reasons, and many more, that is why Pride Month is important!
