Roques de Garcia, Teide National Park, Tenerife: as the rising sun started to make the rocks and trees glow against the deep shadows.

What an amazing place.

Where there’s light, there’s life. Raking sunlight creating 3 triangles, and making the pink pinnacles and two solitary pines glow against the shadowy background and foreground. Sunstar poking out behind a towering group of pinnacles. Jutting out of the high volcanic plateau below Mount Teide, the 27-metre Roque Cinchado seems to defy gravity. It gets its weird shape from differential erosion whereby the softer darker rock at the base is being eroded by the weatherfaster than the harder rock at the top. The impossible tree. Perched on a tiny ledge on the side of a precipitous pinnacle, a solitary pine catches the morning light.
