I was swept up with the desire to run something with Spacemaster/Spacemaster: Privateers yesterday. Cracked open some ancient tomes and newer pdfs...

...before realizing this is a terrible idea.

In the 80s and 90s I was all about Rolemaster. I loved the details, but haven't run anything like...

My Rolemaster Unified (RMU) expansion book, the Character Companion, is now available in print (initial release was PDF only). Support is also now available in Foundry (it was already in ERA and Roll20).

I ran it a bit wayyyy back in the 90s? And I was a Rolemaster guy ever since we added the Arms Law and Spell Law folios to our AD&D game (Character Law not being a thing, yet) until the early 2000s.

I've got a mental itch (which is not brain worms, I don't think) that I need to scratch right now.

I ran a HARP campaign for over a year (pretty long by my standards) and own a copy of HARP SF—HARP always made me want to just run Rolemaster again instead.

HARP used streamlined tables and took the widely variable development point costs of RM and made everything cost 2 or 4 based on class.

I am not a fan of Rolemaster or Spacemaster, but that is a good shout.

Also see FGU Space Opera (again I am not a fan)

What about Striker for Traveller? The answer is always Traveller...

No aprendí yo inglés ni nada gracias a los skills de Rolemaster... me vienen a la cabeza Streetwise, Tumbling y Bargaining.

New Rolemaster Classic video! Part 18 – In Practice: Exploring.

Putting the rules to work with movement, perception, searching, traps, and environmental challenges.

Hope it's useful! If you think it's worthwhile, I'd be grateful if you helped spread the word.

For Rolemaster, we added customization information (how to create custom professions, cultures, etc) and optional rules to give people a hand. Some people play rules-as-written, some reinvent everything, I just want them all to be getting joy from the game.

Rolemaster, definitely. Warhammer first edition – the artwork always sucks me in. Old Cyberpunk supplements like the Chrome books.

I hate that everybody keeps talking about large, complex TTRPG rulesets as if they’re poorly designed.

You don’t have to like these games or get into them. It’s cool if you dislike Rolemaster because it’s large and complex.

But that complexity is fun for a lot of us, and isn’t bad design.

Totally agree - even though I lean towards lean systems nowadays, Rolemaster's got a lot of my bookshelf still.

What's most important to me is not how much crunch but how much good stuff per unit crunch - the crunch efficiency. By that standard, Rolemaster >>>> GURPS, for instance.
