Looking for a grand, adventurous, gay high fantasy!

Hi all! I've been in both a bit of a fantasy and also a bit of a hopeless romantic mood. The market for romatasy is rife, but as a queer person myself, I've been struggling to find a good gay fantasy, especially …

A while back I read a fiction Cleopatra book that made me mad. It was a defanged Disney-fied romatasy of one of the boldest women in history.
So I sought out books that were non Roman biographies of Cleopatra. It wasn't always pretty but it was strength.
This fixed me.

@newlynovabooks.bsky.social's new video on the snake smut romatasy (www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzUo...) is really good but her placeholder image for Lilly-with-two-Ls looks like Posie Parker so i immediately assume she will be evil

The book community comes out in numbers for these nights. At the SF Giants game, there was a Romatasy book club that was going around giving out friendship bracelets with their info. Lots of book clubs who came out to the game together. Was a good representation of macro and micro community

Romatasy is more popular online and contemporary romance is the older crowd that’s not as online unless you count the college x hockey-ish books. Emily Henry and Christina Lauren are for the tired oldies like me.

I think my writer energies possessed me and made me enter a flow state. Since I just hashed out a rough outline for my next book, a sapphic romatasy, and I’m now excited to take a crack at it.
Only problem is I got to finish edits of my first one 😔

I think there's more truth to this than most on Bsky are willing to admit. It's worded poorly but I own a kindle where I basically exclusively buy like Discworld novels and the like, and the only ads for new books I ever see are 90% romatasy and 10% Dungeon Crawler Carl(which is absolutely terrible)

It's so stupid omg
So much shitstorm because they couldn't be bothered to appreciate a subgenre w/o shitting on another. Is it so hard to do?

If anything we should be complaining about how so much romatasy *fails* to do kink based worldbuilding. (At least as far as I can tell).

I haven't scrolled through the whole thing but two I haven't seen:
John Wiswell's Someone You Can Build a Neat In. Romatasy featuring a monster falling in love with her intended egg host.
Sarah Gailey: Lots of stuff. Mostly horror but they wrote a few alternate history Hippo Westerns

One of my favorite film adaptations has gonna be What Dreams May Come, based on the Richard Matheson romatasy novel and starring Robin Williams.
A surprisingly-underrated movie about a dead man who travels to Hell to save his wife, it was an emotional ride.

Several things about this book already gave me the ick like the author writing out phrases like "double-yew tee eff" and really yucky baby talk pet names- I hate when couples get super lovey dovey in enemies to lovers- but nothing will put me straight off a romatasy like a damn pregnancy.
