We stopped for a few days to see @wielandheim.bsky.social & colleagues from the Zoology Institute, who were tagging Himalayan Rubythroats in Almaty. And next in the series of birds outside their breeding range: some Siberian Chiffchaffs, quite a bit farther south than expected. @pdvsky.bsky.social

Explored this large patch of rough, wet scrub north of #Bangkok early today - stuffed full of Rubythroats, Amur Stonechats, Pallas’s Groppers, Lancies & Dusky Warblers. Point black views of Baikal Bush Warbler the highlight.

It was great fun to join forces with @pauldufour80.bsky.social and his team plus our collaborators from the Institute of Zoology in Kazakhstan to tag more Himalayan Rubythroats and sample unexpected chiffchaffs 👇

Great deal during a key time for extreme rarities - Rufous-tailed robin, multiple Siberian Rubythroats, Chestnut-eared Bunting have all turned up in that fortnight

journeynorth.org said this: Most rubythroats fly nonstop 500 miles or more across the water to Mexico and other Central American countries. Some rubythroats fly over land, following the coastline to reach their wintering grounds.

あれ。ノゴマは片足立ちで囀る習性でもあるんだろうか?(わたしも以前片足立ちで囀るノゴマを見たことがあって、撮ってみたけどうまく撮れてなかった・・)
Huh. I wonder if Siberian Rubythroats have a habit of singing while standing on one leg? (I saw one doing that once too and tried to take a photo, but it didn’t turn out well...🎶🦩)

I used to have the spare-feeder-indoors thing, need to get back into that. Having spares made it so much easier to do the refills during fall migration when I had a "route" of a dozen feeders scattered around and several dozen rubythroats zooming between them.
Have you had them feed w/you there yet?
