#rutherfordium
I did my Chemistry O Level in 1982 and I think we went up to Rutherfordium in the textbooks but knew there was more recent stuff. Rutherfordium was discovered the year before I was born. This should qualify as my Bluesky age verification.

one moment...

rutherfordium in you?

I can top with Rutherfordium, but not sure if that's the winner

Let's talk about James A. Harris, the co-discoverer of Rutherfordium and Dubnium, elements 104 & 105.

He was the first African-American to be involved in the creation of a new element.

Born Waco, TX in March 1932 BS in Chemistry at HBU Hutson-Tillotson College in Austin, TX.

Rutherfordium is named after Ernest Rutherford, discoverer of the half-life in radioactive elements. It's synthesized by bombarding plutonium with neon ions or californium with carbon ions.

HOLY CRAP, KID! there's a high caffeine sandwich collaboration with Slempykid! HOLY CRAP, KID! It's going to have a rutherfordium coating & it'll be Alaskan Ice oyster sauce flavour! They're only making 397.

Didn't I just study this in school, the other day... in 1970?

Back then, the table ended at element # 104: rutherfordium (Rf)
The current table now officially ends at element 118: oganesson

The periodic table is a system scientists use to organize all known chemical elements based on their properties, revealing patterns that help us understand how matter behaves.

On #NationalScrabbleDay, this periodic table shows what every element's name would score during a game.

Can you spot the highest scoring elements and the only element that scores the same as its atomic number? www.compoundchem.com/2019/07/07/p...

The observation of the half-life of a neutron deficient rutherfordium isotope has pushed the known half-lives of superheavy massive nuclei down by two orders of magnitude.

Superheavy element half-life measurements push back the limits of stability
Experimental observations of the half life of rutherfordium-252 demonstrate that its stability lies well within the limits required for full atoms to form

Mendeleev used eka-, dwi-, and tri- (sanskrit digit markers for 1, 2, 3) for undiscovered but hypothesized elements further down a given column, like eka-tantalum and such. By induction, Star Trek's 'tritanium' is some form of stabilized rutherfordium. Discuss.

The Island of Stability is where new high-Z elements could exist. To reach it, nuclear physicists are charting the Sea of Instability, which surrounds it.
Short-Lived Superheavy Nucleus Uncovered
The discovery of an isotope, rutherfordium-252, whose ground state forestalls fission for just 60 nanoseconds, could help theorists understand the cosmic synthesis of superheavy elements.

The agreement brokered in 1997 was that element 104 would be named rutherfordium, in honor of Ernest Rutherford, and the Soviet group named element 105 dubnium after the city of Dubna, where the Soviet Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) was located.

It's modestly outdated - Rutherfordium didn't get its formal name until 1997, but the lack of elements 108+ being there at all suggests it's probably from the early 80s.

This #BlackHistoryMonth, we honor James Andrew Harris — the 1st Black scientist to co-discover elements on the periodic table: Rutherfordium & Dubnium. His work broke barriers & shaped nuclear chemistry forever.

Aw fuck you made rutherfordium again, thankfully I know that one from our previous gam- no don't spend 1 to make it into rhodium instead ffs
