Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson is vetoing the RV ordinance passed by council that would institute an RV permitting program. She's signed the other four related ordinances, and she will be announcing details about an executive order "to address RVs" tomorrow.

BREAKING: Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson has just vetoed Councilmember Dan Strauss’ RV permit legislation, citing legal and administrative concerns, as well as worries it would cause more people to become unsheltered. Advocates said the bill effectively banishes hundreds of homeless RV residents.

Yep. And using LV screens because they're scared of the RV data
Like this is the result of herding, yeah?
By my count, there are 9 Senate races within 4 points in polling averages. That means there’s a very small distance between an amazing night for Democrats and a crushing disappointment for them. Calibrate your expectations accordingly.

How much money will Seattle end up spending to defend the city council's RV ban in the inevitable lawsuit?

Re @mayor.seattle.gov's veto of the Seattle City Council's RV ban legislation, I have heard that behind-the-scenes lobbying convinced Rob Saka to change his vote.

Here's % of RV turnout at 1pm compared to final %RV turnout in 2024 and 2018 in these counties

Keep in mind that election day voting patterns are different in each county, but obv the dynamic we're heading towards is way closer to 2018 than 2024

@cmdanstrauss.seattle.gov

A veto on your misguided RV Ban IS proper leadership from our @mayor.seattle.gov

Show some respect!
Councilmember Dan Strauss put out a statement tonight claiming the mayor "promised" she wouldn't veto his bill. He also decried her "lack of leadership" in choosing to veto his RV ban. The council will now schedule a vote on whether to overturn the veto; the bill passed 6-3.
Mayor Wilson did, in fact, veto the bill that would ban RVs over time, citing risks including the likelihood that the elaborate licensing system and one-time count of RV residents will increase administrative burdens and increase unsheltered homelessness. wilson.seattle.gov/wp-content/u...

Hat tip to @hannahkrieg.bsky.social who posted yesterday about the possible Saka change of heart on the RV legislation.

I've been reminded there is a budget public hearing on Thursday (virtual at 1pm, in-person at 5pm). There is some budget overlap on the RV proposal so it wouldn't be entirely off-topic to speak about the RV permitting program and the veto.

You can read more about the RV permitting program below.

their RV sample was D+11 and then they juked it so the LV screen was 11 points redder for... reasons?

Credit where it’s due to Saka for agreeing to work with @mayor.seattle.gov to come up with something better than this horrible RV ban!!!!
Saka, speaking now, says he stands by his vote for the Strauss bill, but has learned that the city gets better results when the mayor and council work together. He says the city needs more shelter and "meaningful accountability" for RV residents who violate rules.

For those curious, The Argument has Dems up +11 with LV and +9 with RV in generic ballot
I'm not a hater but the funny thing about The Argument releasing their poll later today after teasing it so long ago is now its just going to blend in with all of the other insane Dem polls instead of standing out a bit more if it was released earlier.

Who lives in a van or RV and has neighborhood meetings planned around how to get rid of them?
