Not all fire starts from the ground. A helitorch is an aerial ignition device mounted beneath a helicopter. It releases a controlled amount of ignited fuel to introduce low-intensity fire in targeted areas.

We just had a paper come out today on grassland bird response to bison and fire in two tallgrass prairie preserves run by @nature.org. Ths work was led by amazing former MSc student in the lab Tony del Vallé.

#FireFriday Looking forward to the Spring burn season! This was from a prescribed burn I was on at Nachusa Grasslands last spring. I believe this particular burn was a little over 200 acres. Our prairies, wetlands, and woodlands depend on fire for their health!
