#saintgeorgesday
On #SaintGeorgesDay we celebrate the thoroughly English St George who did the proper English thing & had a nice chat & an English cuppa (made with tea grown in the tea fields of Yorkshire) & a Jammie Dodger™ with the dragon.

(before biffing* him when he wasn't looking)

On this #saintgeorgesday, I remind you that Saint George was not English and never stepped foot in the U.K. (if he lived at all). He was also more popular in Scotland until the 14th century and only reached peak popularity thanks to King Edward III and the Order of the Garter.

Today is Diada de Sant Jordi (Saint George’s Day) in Barcelona, Catalonia’s patron saint. Some consider it Catalonia’s Valentine’s Day. A festival of roses & books. #barcelona #catalonia #spain #saintgeorgesday

Wishing all of our friends in England a very happy #SaintGeorgesDay

(We also strongly oppose cruelty to dragons, of course)

Well, it is Saint George's Day again! It is a day often exploited by nationalists intending to drag the country back, but we may as well mention that Saint George seems to have been from Turkey. #SaintGeorgesDay #SaintGeorgesDay2026 #HappySaintGeorgesDay #HappySaintGeorgesDay2026

A spot of reading for #SaintGeorgesDay
Happy St George's Day! This should be a day everyone in England can celebrate together, whatever our backgrounds & whether born here or not. All too often Englishness is hijacked by the Right. My recent book, #AnotherEngland, is my attempt to start to try to take it back🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

The most iconic image of Saint George is when he defeats the dragon, which is a powerful symbol that good always triumphs over evil.

So however you’re celebrating today, have a very Happy Saint George’s Day 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
