today's recommendation. without the quite heavy text of the original choral version, this is a more easily "approachable" arrangement of what i find to be an achingly, painfully gorgeous piece. beautiful recording too.

First concert talk of the 2023-24 season: a Salastina audience/artist guessing game called Sounds Mysterious. Apart from me, nobody (including the musicians) knowing the piece which was being played…and at the end we talk about what we heard in the music and try to guess what it was.

10) eric whitacre - selections from "the sacred veil"
maybe recency bias but i've really been into this arrangement lately. the original choral version is pretty heavy in its subject matter, and this distillation makes it more approachable. i know people think he's corny or whatever but, eh.
