I love copper. I love how it works. I love adding color. Looks awesome. Here is a bracelet done in silver a mentor of mine in Haida and Salish carving, Steve Brown. Bought this for my wife about 10 years ago. Imagine what it would cost now.

Some more jewelry done in PNW Salish design. I had to laminate, turn the bracelet before I was able to lay out and carve the design. Yellow cedar and red cedar.

Since time immemorial, the Indigenous peoples of the Salish Sea have been the greatest stewards of this land, air and water. The Aquarium is on the homelands of the Coast Salish people, and Indigenous science and knowledge are essential to understanding and protecting our shared ocean. (1/2)

While I’ve moved a lot over the years, streams right now are produced on the unceded territories of the Cayuse, Umatilla, Walla Walla, Duwamish, Muckleshoot, and Snoqualmie peoples. The language historically spoken within this region is Lushootseed, part of the Coast Salish linguistic group!

Alien Fruit makes our games in the traditional and ancestral homeland of the Coast Salish peoples including the Duwamish, Suquamish Tribe, Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, and Snoqualmie Indian Tribes.

If you're in North America, take a bit of time to learn about the tribes in your area!

I saw this meme re Seattle. Great. Happened a few years back. On this Indigenous people's day make a commitment to understand geographic differences in Native arts and cultures. SEATTLE.IS salish territory, not Tlingit or Haida, which is what the photo references.

That's the Salish design. The other paddle is a Haida design. All done in old growth yellow cedar. Here's a picture of the shavings from carving the original shape of the paddle before doing the formline design in the paddle.

In South Dakota, they celebrate #NativeAmerican Heritage Day today.

Since moving to the PNW, I have loved the opportunities I've had to learn about Salish culture from Seattle to Alaska.

Here is some art worth sharing that I've seen over the last few years.

Mark Carney is wilfully destroying the climate for money. It doesn't matter if his projects result in extinction of orcas in the Salish Sea, trample all over Indigenous rights including their right to clean water so they can keep poisoning it, taking away workers right to strike - yeah...great guy.
