i used to think my grandma was excessive for checking every leaf of her veggies for bugs, but today i found 2 species of salticids and a over dozen thomisid babies in a bowl of our harvest now i'm like, ok yeah i get it now this is fun

The faces have a lot to do with it, yes.
I suspect that's part of a deeper reason: pretty much all other spiders seem to be read by most humans as mute inscrutable killers, while jumping spiders (salticids) exhibit body language and behavior which humans read as "KITTEN"

She's not getting around well (old salticids start to lose their grip on surfaces and can't produce much silk), but Drummer the Spood's old enclosure I hadn't had the heart to clear out still has her old silk hammock and she climbed right into it for the night. 🥹
