But yeah, there is pleeeeeeeeeenty of SAPHelp JS code that is super outdated and not really anything I'd like anyone to write anymore. Guess if it works it works, UI5 is super backwards compatible after all. ^^

Ah it was from SAPHelp as well then it makes sense. It is just ... old. And in parts (of course I could err') nonsensical? I.e.

onAfterSave: function () {
var that = this;
this._oComp.stRefresh();
}

Why even do "var that = this;" here. Just for the fun of it?
