Happy Monday!

Sassafras trees are usually the first leaves to turn in Autumn. So beautiful.

Note: Sassafras is a key host plant for the caterpillars of Spicebush Swallowtails. Lucky for us, we have a large amount of them in our woods.

In the Ozarks come spring time, take some sassafras and make a tea from it, the old folk will say, but don't overboil it or you'll spoil the flavor with bitterness. This thins the blood, they say, after a long winter that thickens the blood, thus creating balance. #FolkloreSunday

They have discovered a planet. A petite mountain rises amidst the mad forests. I pray that there are sassafras trees there.

There's a battle going on by our house between a maple and a sassafras over who is doing yellow/orange better. The maple is also having a little fight with itself over red vs orange.

No you were not. We do have sassafras as understory trees. We also have hickory but it's at lower elevation. This is about 3000 feet.

What a beautiful golden forest. 💛

Reminds me of the beech, ash, & sassafras forest I used to play in as a kid.

The softer expression of the analog is cuter, but at the same time the sassafras on the digital is awesome. Lol

Since it’s Halloween, here’s one of our trees with orange fall color: Sassafras albidum. Native throughout the state, this medium tree is known for having 3 different leaf shapes on the same plant, with the “mitten” shaped one being the most familiar. (1/2)

Beautiful. The leaves and branches have a lovely scent.
Old timers made sassafras teas from the roots.
Thanks for the memories.
