Now THAT is a gorgeous work!

What's the sauropod species?
November 2, 2026 at 10:00 PM
By modern paleontological standards, the creature was a mess: a snake-like neck, a small head, spotted skin and a bipedal run, while the cover shows something closer to a sauropod.
In 1930, #Lovecraft read a story by Katharine Metcalf Roof about a dinosaur hatching from a prehistoric egg. He wrote to his friends complaining someone "stole his idea." A few months later, he wrote At the Mountains of Madness. paleonerdish.wordpress.com/2026/10/30/h...

#Museum30 Day 4: Lighting

We used to get a bit artsy with it in the fossil prep lab. Lighting specimens from different angles can help you more easily identify cracks and irregularities in the bone surface

Worth noting this is one of the only depictions of a carch actually properly hunting a sauropod and avoiding the "bite and wait" myth. Which makes it one of the few non-awful depictions.
I rewatched this Acrocanthosaurus hunt from an old Discovery Channel documentary. The models may be old, but it still hit the spot in my brain. The way the Acro is shown killing the Astrodon I could actually see it doing.

Meet Brachiosaurus lessoni, a species of sauropod that lived during the Jurassic! This is just an artist's interpretation of what it might've looked like!

I think more fantasy setting could do with some sauropod size/height friends just wandering around.

Okay, that reminds me-

What sauropod was regarded as fraudulent, again? Was it the brachiosaurus?

No sauropod animation compares to the walking with dinosaurs diplodocus walk cycle… the skin undulation alone

It’s eerily similar to the also haunting demise of the zombie sauropod from the Plague of Madness episode of Primal!

Cortical bone geometry and static gravitational loads in neosauropod dinosaurs: Implications for biomechanical constraints on terrestrial gigantism
Sauropod dinosaurs achieved unprecedented terrestrial gigantism, raising questions about the biomechanical limits of bone under extreme gravitational loads. We estimated static gravitational pressure...
