Despite federal shutdown, Trump’s fossil fuel agenda moves forward Bloomberg News reported earlier this month that the Interior Department will keep processing permits for new oil and gas projects and coal leases, even as it furloughs thousands of workers during the shutdown that began Oct. 1. Workers are still processing oil and gas leases sales in the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska. However, the department’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management will stop working on offshore renewable energy projects, according to the news outlet.
