“the library needs to pay market value to rent the space”
No. No they don’t.
Libraries aren’t “for profit.” They’re not a freakin Starbucks or McDonalds.
They may be the last place to provide essential services and materials to every community member regardless of ability to pay.

We live in Grants Pass, OR where our newly elected city council (red) just evicted our library. They have 30 days from Jan 1 pay "going rate" for the building they have been renting for $1 per year (blue city council) or vacate. Disgusted.

“LIBRARIES LEAD DEMOCRACY”
by empowering their patrons through a variety of programs and services, & offering space for public use. Libraries across North America play an important role in cultivating healthy democratic communities, & continue to respond in creative ways to build on this legacy.

I like it but we need to express that the Grants Pass OR Library is under threat of closure
Remember the Town who fought to make Homelessness illegal all the way to the Supreme Court?
Same place

30 days for a community library to come up with a plan to pay market rent? Because the county jail needs a new roof?
Talk about mixed up priorities!
