Huge thanks to @scottishbirding.bsky.social and the SBRC team, particularly @fatpaulscholes.bsky.social and @steelyseabirder.bsky.social, and all the speakers, for putting this fabulous conference together. More please! #BirdingScotland
I really enjoyed the first evening (of three) of the SOC’s SBRC online conference. Cracking talks from Ian Andrews on Fair Isle and Mark Lewis on predicting the next British firsts. Glad to see the Online Scottish Bird Report (oSBR) get a big plug too. #BirdingScotland

Third and final evening of the @scottishbirding.bsky.social SBRC online conference kicked off by @alexanderlees.bsky.social staggering talk on global change and vagrancy 🤯 So many factors and increasing pressures driving bird populations and vagrancy. Wonderful stuff 👏🏼 #BirdingScotland

Seriously @scottishbirding.bsky.social it’s 2026 and you are running a conference with nine speakers and they are all male!.

SBRC has nine current members and they are all male, has there ever been a female member since its formation in 1984?.

Second evening of the @scottishbirding.bsky.social SBRC online conference. And a cracking talk by Paul Dufour on various aspects of vagrancy inc his current work looking at the origins of commoner Siberian migrants. Do they come from a common origin? #BirdingScotland

At @rossahmed.bsky.social's excellent SBRC talk tonight, there was discussion as to whether the increase in Scottish records of North American landbirds was largely related to more birders visiting Shetland in recent years. No doubt that has helped, but if you assume coverage of Fair Isle... (1/3)

Thanks both for these. Having just come off the @scottishbirding.bsky.social SBRC online conf (evening 1/3) my brain is frazzled so I’ll read both at leisure tmrw 😉

I was an intern at Hughes SBRC and pointed out the danger of putting a chunk of beryllium on top of a pile of explosives. Management told me don’t worry, it wasn’t a problem. That launch had to be detonated, showering a number of square miles downwind from Vandenberg with beryllium and its oxides.
