‘Anthropic has committed a whopping $895.4B deals that it largely cannot back out of. Its IPO could raise $100B. It is also raising debt financing, including $63B last week. Even so, it has warned that it may need to seek additional financing sooner than anticipated.‘ www.nytimes.com/2026/11/02/t...

On World's Cities Day we want to share this old-school poster of the Fietsersbond, the Dutch Cyclists' Union
Space is one of the scarcest resources in most modern cities, and how we use it has a great impact on our quality of life.

How do we use our streets for people and not just for traffic?

A consequential, but somehow always conveniently forgotten point amid the AI boosterism:

“Our ability to remain at the frontier of A.I. capabilities is substantially dependent on our ability to secure compute at the scale required to sustain all our workloads.”

Ask for one page instead: the key assumptions, the biggest uncertainties, and what you’d have to believe for the recommendation to work.

Australia's $70B AI data-centre boom forgot one thing: electricity. Just 23% of 40+ planned sites have power secured. The scarcest resource in AI isn't chips anymore — it's the grid ⚡

From Brownfield to Data Center: Why Environmental Strategy Belongs in the Development Plan
Demand for data center capacity is rewriting the rules of site selection. With interconnection queues stretching for years, power has become the scarcest input, and properties once discounted because of known or suspected contamination can offer infrastructure support that greenfield sites often cannot. This includes large tracts of industrially zoned land that already have transmission, substations, water, and transportation access. Additionally, federal, state, and local funding and tax benefits may be available to encourage development of these brownfield sites. For many developers, the question is no longer whether to consider a brownfield, but how to do it without inheriting its problems. The federal government is encouraging this shift in perspective and practice. Executive Order 14318, Accelerating Federal Permitting of Data Center Infrastructure, directed the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to identify brownfield and Superfund sites that could support data center projects. Following issuance of its Guidance on the Redevelopment of Superfund and Brownfield Sites as AI Data Centers in January 2026, EPA has expanded its mapping tools to screen Superfund sites and large brownfields with potential for data center reuse. These projects are already happening. On its website, EPA highlights a data center built on two former textile and manufacturing brownfields...

Every AI-generated site looks the same because every model optimizes for 'safe and pleasant'. But design that converts is distinctive, not pleasant. Taste — knowing what to leave out — is still the scarcest input, and it doesn't come in the box.
