As an ED doc, my mind immediately went to SCFE, bone/muscle cancers and septic joint. Even a subtle fracture we missed the injury of because he was mid-basketball season. As a mom, my kid couldn’t walk.

Maine Coon cats get SCFE? Wild.
(also for anyone curious, the diagnosis was capital femoral epiphysis, where the femoral head breaks due to weak growth plates. It's similar to hip dysplasia and both are common in large cats, especially Maine coons. Ferdie isn't a Maine coon, he's just a big boy 😸)

A single-center study of 17 SCFE patients (18 hips) found that a type C perfusion MRI pattern, indicating no contrast enhancement, predicted avascular necrosis in all 4 cases (22%). Read more: https://getnews.me/perfusion-mri-predicts-avascular-necrosis-in-scfe/ #scfe #perfusionmri

In awe at the amazing professionals at Children’s Hospital. On Friday our son’s pediatrician sent an xray to their ortho team. By that evening he was admitted and on Saturday he had surgery for SCFE. Everyone at the hospital was amazing and the boy is set for a full recovery.

I'm having a lot of luck sending polite DMs to people about FWs when they post without them! I'm getting extremely warm & appreciative responses across the board. If everyone in the fandom aware of this joins in, I think we can successfully fix this to keep everyone scfe 💕

unless most fans are masking, the venue is NOT 100% scfe for anyone, masked or not (its just considerably less safe without one). It takes a team effort to keep everyone scfe.

Concerning for me, as a 3D printer: 3D-printed guides in SCFE reduced femoral head translational error from 30.1mm pre-op to 15mm post-op, and rotational error from 50.9° to 25°. Residual deviations persisted (plate rotation avg. 19.8° - too high!). Further optimization needed. Small sample (n=5).
