Boudinage are one of the most spectacular geologic structures and some of my favorite rocks. The boudins are the eye-shaped lenses of rock wedged between the white quartz layers. This happened when the rocks were being stretched by tectonic forces. The eye-shaped lenses, augen… 👇🏼

I collected this specimen of the Arran granite intruding the Dalradian schists ten years ago, and finally got round to cutting it. Really happy with how it’s come out. Half going to National Museum, half to Arran Geopark.

The polyphase folding in the schists is pretty impressive, as are the numerous granitic erratics (rocks carried within and then dropped from ice sheets as they melt) scattered around the park on the smooth ‘glacial pavements’. Stunning 👍🏾
