I’m a physical oceanographer. Democrats’ use of the term “blue tsunami” is riddled with scientific inaccuracies.

Smart scientific people in congress? Yes please, and thank you!

A violation of scientific integrity
And yes, Im really angry after a peer reviewer likely fed my unpublished manuscript into an LLM to generate a review and didn't disclose it to the press. Dishonest and unethical behavior is what gAI encourages and breeds.

Conveniently, this is also step 1 in the playbook for rebuilding scientific capacity, research infrastructure, and higher education!
So, much work to do for the Democrats. Like rebuilding an entire federal workforce. They start that project by firing and prosecuting the people that destroyed it.

Just remarked to @djrothkopf.bsky.social that I've got that delightful leg tingling feeling that signifies non-suicidal thoughts about America. This is a scientific condition.

Happy to have some work on scientific understanding come out!

One paper on 'Scientific understanding in evolutionary biology'

Now back to life!
Scientific understanding and the controversy over adaptationism in evolutionary biology - European Journal for Philosophy of Science
In this paper, I show how explanatory and objectual scientific understanding can be used to explain the early 1980s controversy over adaptationism. In this controversy, critics of adaptationism argued...

the scientific name for mastodon is mammut

the scientific name for mammoths is mammuthus

mastodon got their name because supposedly their teeth resembled breasts

mammoths have much more normal ridged teeth

tldr: mastodon is more mammary than mammoth

"Biological sex" is not a scientific concept.

Let’s make sure there’s a Project 2027 and 2029 focused on what the incoming Congress and potential Democratic administration in 2029 can do to start restoring a properly functioning scientific community in the US. It will take generations to recover what we lost.

With my excellent scientific mind I was able to deduce just from photographs that we would not be able to survive on Mars
"A growing body of evidence from both orbital and surface missions suggests that Martian dust is chemically reactive, potentially toxic, and likely to induce inflammatory responses in biological systems" www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...
If you should go to Mars, don't inhale.

As well as not tasting the dust.

"Fine and ultrafine Martian dust presents additional risks for future crewed missions to Mars"

How researchers debunked ‘race science’: ‘a triumph of scientific self-correction’
An account of how nineteenth-century studies aiming to find a biological basis for human races were dismantled by good scientific practices — although their effects are still felt today.
