I am a little shocked tbh because people keep insisting that describing eugenics as a science legitimizes eugenicist beliefs? they're telling on themselves and their uncritical scientism--and this is people with graduate degrees and academic jobs in some cases

this is also useful for things like passing should that be your goal. because the majority of cis people believe in sexed souls, even if they claim they do not, even if they try to point to scientism or whatever to justify their sexed soul belief,

It’s a marginal pseudoscientific alt-reality steeped in science fiction driven scientism, which presents itself as being the sole intellectual field with knowledge of all of the problems and all of the solutions that are worth discussing in society at large, dominant only because of their wealth.

Today I finally submitted my PhD thesis, "Feyerabend's Monster and the Critique of Scientism" for examination 🥳 in it I develop the social-democratic tendency within Paul Feyerabend's political thought, towards a critical social theory of scientism. It's taken me a long time, but it was worth it!

finally saw "Project Hail Mary" this weekend without knowing anything about it other than that it was written by the guy who wrote "The Martian," and wow I was not prepared for how hilariously goofy it was going to be

I think scientism is almost always used incorrectly as a dismissive insult by a person who doesn't like science's implications for their beliefs and wants to use the charge to preserve a domain where science cannot touch them, but I think this is actual, real-deal scientism.

It is a form of scientism to rationalize the course of scientific progress with plausible post hoc narratives and to try to establish the historical inevitability of scientific knowledge. This kind of scientism stands firmly against scientific pluralism. In that, I find Chang's work self-affirming.

Come on. Nowhere in that article is causation established. It shows test scores declined during COVID, and that laptops became widespread, but blames score declines on laptops and never mentions COVID. That isn’t science, it’s culture war nonsense laundered through scientism.
