Researchers at HIT SCIR introduce TEA-Bench, the first systematic benchmark for tool-enhanced emotional support dialogue agents, and find that external tools improve grounding and curb hallucination — but only when a model knows when and how to use them.

HIT SCIR researchers introduce TEA-Bench, the first systematic benchmark for tool-enhanced emotional support dialogue agents, evaluating whether models can use external tools to provide grounded, reliable support rather than empty reassurance. The paper finds that tools generally improve support quality and reduce hallucination, but gains depend on the model's ability to use them judiciously.
