And as a reminder LexisNexis is a subsidiary of RELX which also owns Elsevier (which owns Scopus, Scival, Clinical Key and a bajillion journals)

#AcademicSky worth noting this, considering Elsevier is also a subsidiary of RelX. Elsevier products include Scopus, SciVal, Mendeley, and ScienceDirect.
Kinda feels important to know that ReedPOP's parent company has ties to ICE. There's some things we can do in the comics community to make our voices heard. 1/3

New favourite auto-transcription error: "Hi mum" for SciVal

So what do I do? Today: searching for data on research grants, updating a presentation on SciVal, meeting with a colleague about hosting training materials on SharePoint, working on an institutional publications checklist
Hello new followers! I reckon lots of you are here from library starter packs, fair warning I'm almost certainly not the kind of librarian you're thinking of. I don't get to touch the books or buy the books. Do feel free to unfollow if you're here for the book chat.

Elsevier products: ScienceDirect, Scopus, Mendeley, SciVal, SSRN, Pure, Interfolio. . .and that's not all.

Elsevier’s stranglehold on academia: How publishers get rich off our data
Academic publishers’ most valuable asset used to be their journals. Now, it’s the data they collect from researchers and then sell. That is extremely concerning, a growing group of Groningen researche...

I am officially SciVal certified! Which is nice, as I'm training people on SciVal next week. And have already spent quite a lot of time poking it for data.

Whhhy will SciVal let me print a list of publications but not export them in an actually useful format? And why will Endnote not let me add references by feeding it a list of DOIs?
February 19, 2025 at 2:33 PM
Anyone have to hand the explanation of how Overton (and therefore SciVal) classify "Guidelines in PubMed Central"? I've come across a few coming through which seem to be Practice Guidelines as Topic rather than Publication Type: Practice Guideline.

I've been wrestling with some data that just didn't make sense comparing a SciVal publication export and Medline search results using an Xlookup. Just realised I was doing the difficult bits correctly, but I'd copied and pasted a column from the wrong spreadsheet. Glad it's the weekend now!

Did my first group session on SciVal! No questions at all, which is always disconcerting.
November 28, 2023 at 12:07 PM
Discover I need my FWCI score... find mine is really low... find SciVal thinks I haven't authored about 2/3rds of my papers because... Scopus attributes them all to my deadname.

Apparently Scopus' database is like... 3 years out-of-date? 🤦‍♀️

If only we didn't rely on it as a useful data source.

I remember being relieved in December that TCU chose to stay with Brightspace (D2L) instead of moving to Canvas for our learning management system. Mostly because it meant I didn’t have to learn a new system & migrate everything there. Hoping we’re not hacked next. provost.tcu.edu/news/d2l-wat...

As someone who just got told last month we have to report our SciVal metrics every quarter to the research office as a basis for tenure track progress, this is uncomfortably nail-on-head
