Every fall when it gets darker, I get nervous about being seen by drivers while walking. Today’s mini project is making reflective bag tags for my fam out of 3M Scotchlite sew-on tape and various miscellaneous clips and keychains found around the house 🔦 #sewingsky

Camera paired with a projector, with a 50/50 beamsplitter between them at a 45 degree angle. Behind the miniature is a Scotchlite (TM) screen, onto which the starfield is projected. Pretty good solution, though the transparent domes created some artifacts with the projection

De første årene var Scotchlite enerådende. Og det var bånd til å sy på klær som gjaldt. Men TT gikk sammen med Esso i 1960 og lanserte et nytt produkt. En plaststrimmel med Scotchlite som kunne festes rundt armen. Nå skulle refleksen alminneliggjøres. For alle.

Adelsten etablerte etter hvert en egen Scotchlite-disk i butikken. Her kunne husmødre kjøpe bånd de selv kunne sy på klærne. Fokuset var fremdeles barn.

Men det var først da den moderne refleksbrikken i plast at det virkelig tok av (1966). Den kan vi forøvrig takke finnene for. Scotchlite og 3M mistet monopolet. Og en ny refleksæra var i emning. Mer om den i morgen.

I 1937 patenterte Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Co (3M) en helt ny oppfinnelse: Scotchlite. Produktet gjorde at reflekser kunne komme i alle farger, klebes på tøy, og skilt. Produktet kom til Europa etter krigen. Første bruksområde var trafikkskilt.

Get IR blocking/filtering glasses. 33% or greater

Also reflective material like cyclists wear is effective. It makes massive glare to the IR camera. Specifically, retroreflective material or Microprismatic plastic.
