Church of St Peter, #Ugborough #Devon

Early 16th Century screen, with 32 painted panels.

Unusual to see martyrdom of #StSebastian depicted with not just his body riddled with arrows, but also the actual archers with their weapons.

(Evidence of costume & weapons)

St Peter’s Ugborough also has a fine, though much altered, screen for #ScreensOnSaturday. Unfortunately cut down in Victorian times to provide a view of the altar but what remains is still magnificent

#ScreensOnSaturday. From St Thomas Bridford which has a wonderful chancel screen and parclose screen as well as the rare painted ceilure above. There would have been a rood (crucifix) above the chancel arch

Didn't know that #ScreensOnSaturday might be a thing but just in case here's a photo of the screen in the church of St Botolph in #Cambridge.

No need to apologise! Rejoicing in church furnishings is free to all! Will we meet again for #ScreensOnSaturday ?

It is fascinating.
I like how the artist has painted the archer in 16th Century everyday costume. Just look at how he would have been tied into that shirt/jacket. No zips.
