Um, Yvette, did you expect that starting a war with a country bordering one side of the Strait would have zero consequences for that Strait as that country tries to defend itself? What international law says countries are supposed to just take a beating from a white man and say “thank you”?

Thats what seafearers do. Rescue people. Like Calmac have rescued people at sea in trouble. This would have been a highlight as a passenger for me to have a free ride on the Waverly.
Steam engines were & are powerful. Their design is robust & have great endurability.
