A father whose son nearly drowned off the California coast has expressed profound gratitude toward the teenage lifeguard who plunged into dangerous surf to save the boy's life. Sumit Rai praised the selfless actions of 16-year-old Ryder Williams, who entered the water at Seabright Beach in Santa Cruz despite hazardous conditions including 10-foot waves and treacherous currents on Saturday. Nathaniel Rai, 10, was standing in ankle-deep water when he suddenly lost his footing and was pulled seaward by powerful swells.
