This is a fascinating chart from EIA. First two columns are the states that have the highest energy prices / highest total spend. Second two are the states with the highest per capita and per GDP$ energy expenditure. Note how different the lists are. www.eia.gov/state/seds/s...

Ya'll. I have been invited to speak as part of the SEDS x Space Generation Advisory Council

We're going to be talking about settlements in space & I've been invited on to provide and Indigenous perspective on off-world colonizing

It's gonna be a fascinating convo!

Some claim the high electricity use in TX and other southern states is due to electrification of heating vs use of gas for heat in CA & blue states

But TX burns 3.1x the fossil gas per capita as CA. All southern states burn far more gas/capita than CA

Yes I hear exoplanets are out for the SS26 season. Consider accessorizing your research with some galaxies, preferably z > 10 or with weirdly red SEDs.

Estuary-bottom pressure/turbulence pulse assoc’d w passage of large (>5 m draft), fast (>9 knot) ships trigger CH4 emission from bottom seds, equiv to ~22% more (so far unaccounted-for) C emissions in addition to ship exhausts.

Coastal methane emissions triggered by ship passages - Communications Earth & Environment
Shipping in estuaries causes pressure changes and water column mixing, which induces methane emissions to the atmosphere, according to field observations of methane from Neva Bay, Russia.

With about 679 million tons in 2024 that would be more than the emissions of Texas!

“Dutch people cycle an average of 2.6km each per day. If this pattern was replicated worldwide, annual carbon emissions would drop by 686 million tonnes.

This mammoth figure exceeds the entire carbon footprint of most countries, including the UK, Canada, Saudi Arabia and Australia.” @euronews.com
Cycling like the Dutch would slash the world’s carbon footprint
If everybody cycled like the Dutch, we could offset the UK or Australia’s entire carbon footprint.

Is everyone ready for the Summit on European Digital Sovereignty?
Do we have a hashtag? #SEDS? #DigitalSovereignty?

The graphics look like the French and German flags tried to make an AI logo together.

My #proterozoic deep water seds are Choc full of microbial structures showing that the sea bed was effectively sealed during deposition. This must have had a significant impact on nutrient cycling through the proterozoic.
Nowadays, animals till the seafloor. They make holes, eat the organic matter buried there, and flush the sediment with water. But this system had to evolve through the Phanerozoic into its current form, with a few ups and down along the way. 🧪⚒️

Look at those seds. Always wanted to visit here! Girvan is the type locality for the enigmatic microfossil Girvanella. Considered by some to be an algae or cyanobacteria. My own opinion is that it is probably polyphyletic and separate taxa have been assigned to this genus.
Had an awesome Saturday looking at some gloriously messy 450 million year old Ordovician sediments around Girvan in preparation for an upcoming Geological Society of Glasgow field trip (Dr Jurassic Clark for scale!)
