on this note, anyone around who can talk about Martian seismology for an article? 🧪🔭
oh fucking hell, this is the time of year when time changes are staggered across the globe so trying to schedule any interviews is sheer constipated misery

because his brain would just *melt*

it had about as much to do with how civil trials work as The Core had to do with seismology and planetary structures or Armageddon had to do with good parenting

and it ended with some very poorly aged humor that would be profoundly uncomfortable to watch now

Yeah, modern seismology is pretty good at predicting this stuff, but I've never let reality get in the way of a good joke.

Did the Viking 2 lander detect a marsquake 50 years ago? It seems like it, new research suggests.

InSight into Seismology on the Red Planet - Eos
Viking 2 detected two possible marsquakes in 1976. New analysis links one to the same region where InSight recorded nearly 1,000 marsquakes decades later.

Scientists use seismology to recover information like mass and speed of a landslide that tumbled into Alaska’s Tracy Arm Fjord, creating a tsunami. They found that the landslide transferred 1.76 ± 0.09 x 10^11 kJ of energy. #SRL ⚒️

Both approaches have the potential to get new astrophysics by making measurements at lower frequencies than on Earth as well as measuring lunar signals to get information about the interior we can't get from the Apollo data or with single stations like my other lunar seismology projects.

And revolutionize the science through their research and innovation. The network later grew through new instruments, telemetry, and now digital recording, but Riverside’s long record remains a remarkable link to the region’s early earthquake monitoring history, and really Seismology as a whole.

CI.RVR’s record began before the Southern California Seismic Network even existed. By 1931, stations including Riverside helped make it possible for the Grandfathers of Seismology like Wood, Richter, Benioff, Guttenberg, Buwalda, and Anderson, to locate quakes larger than M3 across much of SoCal.
