Our sepia-toned photograph captures an Aer Lingus passenger aircraft on its final approach to Dublin Airport. The twin-engine turboprop plane flies from right to left across the centre of the image, its landing gear lowered as it prepares to touch down. The distinctive shamrock emblem is visible on the dark tail fin. The aircraft appears relatively small against an enormous, softly textured sky, which fills most of the photograph in warm shades of brown and bronze. Wisps of low cloud stretch across the horizon, adding depth and atmosphere to the scene. Along the bottom of the image, a black metal security fence runs across the foreground, its closely spaced vertical railings topped with pointed spikes. Beyond the fence stands a long, low airport building with alternating white and vivid red panels. A small sign attached to the fence reads “WAY OUT,” with a bold arrow pointing to the right. The selective colour treatment makes the red-and-white building stand out against the otherwise monochromatic, vintage-style scene. The composition contrasts the vast openness of the sky with the rigid lines of the airport perimeter, capturing a fleeting moment in the everyday rhythm of aviation as an Aer Lingus flight descends towards the runway at Dublin Airport. And finally, our picture today is finished with a simple white border frame.

treet photograph taken in Marrakech, Morocco, showing a narrow cobbled alley lined with tall buildings and rough stone walls. The image is predominantly black and white, with selective colour highlighting a bright red cloak worn by a person standing near a child. The alley recedes into the distance, drawing attention to the contrast between the red garment and the monochrome urban setting.

After the picture description l have written a poem about this scene. At the centre of the image stands a modern public bench made of black metal. Rather than a traditional seat, it has a sculptural, contemporary design with circular arm-like loops and smooth curved surfaces. The bench appears sturdy and functional, yet its unusual shape gives it an almost abstract appearance, like a piece of modern art placed on the pavement. Our photograph is predominantly black and white, creating a moody and somewhat melancholic atmosphere. The shallow depth of field keeps the background soft and indistinct, drawing the eye firmly toward the bench in the foreground. A tall white pole rises along the left side of the frame, adding a strong vertical element. The only vivid colour in the image comes from two discarded green glass bottles lying on the ground. One bottle rests near the left side of the bench, while another lies in the foreground. Their bright emerald green stands out dramatically against the otherwise monochrome scene. The sky visible in the upper left corner is cloudy and grey, reinforcing the subdued mood. Overall, the image feels quiet and contemplative a portrait of an ordinary urban corner. Finally, our picture is finished with a white border frame. Now for my poem…. I call it….The Bench at Dawn A circle of steel on a silent street, Watching the city through rain-washed feet. Apartments stand guard in a softened haze, Their windows recalling forgotten days. Two green bottles gleam like emerald light, Fragments of laughter left after night. No voices remain, no footsteps stay, Only echoes lingering into the day. The bench keeps watch where stories end, A patient listener, a steadfast friend. In concrete shadows and silver skies, It gathers the moments that drift and rise. And though the street seems still and bare, A thousand unseen lives have passed there. Leaving behind, in glass and stone, A reminder that no place is ever alone.

After today’s picture description, l have written a poem inspired by this capture. Our picture centers on a single, luminous flower standing out vividly against a muted, almost monochrome background. The bloom is a soft, buttery yellow with five broad, slightly uneven petals spreading outward like an open hand. Each petal has delicate veins radiating from the middle, subtly darker toward the centre and fading lighter at the edges. One petal curls inward, adding a gentle sense of movement and imperfection. At the heart of the flower is a dense cluster of fine, golden-orange stamens, forming a textured core that looks almost like a tiny sun. This bright centre draws the eye immediately. Surrounding the flower are dark, desaturated leaves rendered in shades of grey and charcoal. They are detailed with visible veins and scattered with small droplets of water, suggesting recent rain. The contrast is striking, the background feels quiet, subdued, and shadowy, while the flower appears radiant and alive, almost glowing against the darkness. Finally, our picture is finished with a simple white border frame. And now for my poem… I call it….The One Who Refused to Fade In a garden hushed to silence, where colour forgot its name, and every leaf wore sorrow in a cloak of ashen grey, there bloomed a quiet defiance, a whisper of yellow flame. Not loud, not wild in thunder, but steady, soft, and true, a petal-lit rebellion against a world un-hued. While shadows clung to every edge, and light seemed thin and small, you held the sun within your heart and gave it, still, to all. No need to drown the darkness, no need to chase the night, just be the hue that lingers, just be the gentle light. For even in the dullest world, where hope feels worn and slight, one bloom can change the silence by simply being bright.

Our photograph captures a lively moment of preparation on a village street ahead of a Saint Patrick’s Day parade, with most of the scene in black and white except for touches of Irish colour that stand out vividly. In the centre of the image, two men are interacting in the middle of the road. One, an older man with light hair, wearing a light-coloured jacket and dark trousers, is stepping forward with a slight lean, as if mid-conversation or mid-laugh. Facing him is another man standing on the front platform of a tractor. He is dressed in darker clothing and a hat, leaning slightly forward as he reaches out. Between them, they appear to be handing over or adjusting a string of small triangular bunting. The bunting stretches across the street and is one of the few elements in colour, green, white, and orange flags fluttering gently, adding a festive Irish touch against the otherwise muted tones. More strands of bunting run diagonally across the scene, connecting buildings on either side of the street. To the right, the tractor is parked partly on the road, its front fitted with a metal basket or cage. Inside the basket are supplies, possibly more decorations or equipment. On the left side of the street, a row of two-storey buildings lines the road. Shopfronts and signs are visible at ground level. The buildings are modest and closely spaced, typical of a small Irish village, with chimneys rising above their roofs. Overhead, the sky is dramatic and heavy with dark, textured clouds, creating a moody backdrop that contrasts with the cheerful flashes of green, white, and orange. Overall, the image conveys a quiet but meaningful moment of community effort. Two people working together to dress their street in national colours, preparing for a celebration that will soon bring the village to life. And finally, our picture day is finished with a simple white border frame.
