my armchair psychological diagnosis is that the drive to accumulate as much wealth as possible eats away at the drive for self-improvement or the internal desire to cultivate any skills or tastes. these people build huge mounds of treasure and then essentially just sit around looking at it, empty.
find it genuinely delighting that people with enough money to never work again (and do literally anything they want anywhere in the world at any time) seemingly have nothing going on in their lives and are so miserable they are just spending the holidays frantically posting

I just got the official email from the NSF about the drastic cuts and I think the correct translation is "if you are a young researcher who still wants to do science strongly consider leaving the United States if you can." which, really, is not an ideal message to be sending.

UPDATE: SAPD says early morning shooting initially reported as drive-by was self-inflicted
However, after further interviews, detectives say the woman admitted the shooting was self-inflicted and happened accidentally.

I will never understand bike hatred. the big ridiculous cars driven by impatient, entitled, self centered assholes who can't just figure out managing their time well enough to leave earlier and drive a bit more carefully seem kind of a bigger issue idk
